Queens Defenders’ Emerging Leaders Program is a youth-development focused career and work-readiness program for young people charged with offenses in Queens Criminal Court.

The program brings together attorneys, youth program staff, the Courts, professional coaches, and others to help young people discover potential career interests, provide opportunities for learning and personal growth, and gain hands-on work experience in an internship or job of their choice. The program strives to create an environment where young people are seen, heard, and valued, and helps them realize their full potential while working toward the most favorable outcome possible in their case. This program typically lasts nine months and consists of three phases.
Phase One
- Develop emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
- Participate in recreational activities, career and self-exploration workshops, and outings.
- Paid participation up to 10 hours.

- Internship/part-time job placement at Queens Defenders or partnering company.
